Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 t. baking soda
  • 1 T. ginger
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • 1 t. ground cloves

Confectioner’s Icing

  • Confectioner’s Sugar
  • water
  • 1 t. vanilla

Directions

  1. Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar and salt.
  2. Stir in egg, molasses and ginger. Beat well.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together any ingredients.
  4. Stir into wet ingredients and chill about 3 hours.
  5. On lightly floured surface, roll dough about 1/8″ thick.
  6. Cut with gingerbread boy shaped cuter.
  7. Play 1″ apart on greased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake for 6 minutes. Cool slightly.
  9. Use red hots for faces and buttons.
  10. Pipe on trim of confectioner’s icing.
