TAKES 1 HOUR • MAKES 48
Ingredients
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 t. salt
- 1 egg
- 1 c. molasses
- 5 c. flour
- 1 1/2 t. baking soda
- 1 T. ginger
- 1 t. cinnamon
- 1 t. ground cloves
Confectioner’s Icing
- Confectioner’s Sugar
- water
- 1 t. vanilla
Directions
- Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar and salt.
- Stir in egg, molasses and ginger. Beat well.
- In a separate bowl, sift together any ingredients.
- Stir into wet ingredients and chill about 3 hours.
- On lightly floured surface, roll dough about 1/8″ thick.
- Cut with gingerbread boy shaped cuter.
- Play 1″ apart on greased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 6 minutes. Cool slightly.
- Use red hots for faces and buttons.
- Pipe on trim of confectioner’s icing.
