Ingredients
- 1/2 c. butter, softened
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. confectioners sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 T. almond extract
- 1 t. vanilla
- 2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
- 1 t. salt
- 1/2 t. red food color
- 1/4 c. crushed peppermint candy
- 1/4 c. granulated sugar
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Mix butter, shortening, confectioners sugar, egg and extract until blended.
- Blend in flour and salt slowly until fully mixed into dough.
- Divide dough in half and place each half in separate bowls.
- Blend food color into one half.
- Shape 1 t. of each colored dough into 4″ rope.
- Roll together the two ropes until they are attached, but not mixed into each other.
- Place onto ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake about 9 minutes or until light brown.
- While cookies are cooking, blend peppermint candy in food processor until it becomes a coarse ground.
- Mix in bowl with granulated sugar.
- Once you remove the cookies from the oven, immediately sprinkle with sugar and peppermint candy mixture.
